Chicago, IL

Chicago Transit Authority

design team:

Architect - Architrave, Ltd.
Civil, Structural, MPE Engineering - Parsons Transportation Group

project description:

New 3-story building containing public terminal access and operations offices links bus, rail, bicycle, auto and pedestrian transportation modes. Renovation of existing ground level station and retail space including restoration of historic terra cotta facade. Replacement of two rail platforms with new precast concrete platforms and glazed steel canopy.

design solutions:

The new station entry uses color and fenestration to separate its identity from the surrounding retail uses. Conversely, massing, transparency and physical connections provide linkage to its context. The platform canopy supplies both shelter and identity to terminal.
