owner:
City of Chicago, Department of Assets, Information and Services (AIS)
design team:
Lead Architect—AECOM
Associate Architect—Architrave, Ltd.
project description:
The JPSTC/A will replace and consolidate various existing public safety training facilities located throughout the City. The new centralized Joint Public Safety Training Academy, to be constructed on a 30-acre campus, will provide state-of-the-art indoor and outdoor training spaces for Chicago Police Department (“CPD”) and Chicago Fire Department (“CFD”) training capabilities.
design solutions:
By placing the Office/Classroom block along Chicago Ave. and allocating additional street frontage for commercial development, the JPSTA concept plan helps reinforce the street edge and revitalize an important stretch of North Lawndale. In keeping with the concept and in coordination with the larger team, Architrave focused on interior architecture for the Office/Classroom block including community spaces, offices, training classrooms, locker rooms and support spaces, and an indoor firing range.
